Life is an on-going learning process. It is a reality that we live day by day. But sometimes I feel there is more happening out there, that I need to explore and see it for myself. So instead of watching those sci-fi, rom com and horror flicks, I decided to watch some impressive documentaries that depicts relevant issues on the environment, politics and religion. These films have opened my eyes and stimulated my passion for learning. There is definitely a lot going on out there. We just have to expand our horizons.
An Inconvenient Truth
This Oscar-winner documentary depicts the the current issues that we are facing and long time effects of global warming. This was an eye-opener for me. Al Gore was able to effectively and clearly explain the possible environmental hazards that the world is facing due to too much Carbon Dioxide in the air. This documentary sends a strong message and promotes awareness on what we can do to resolve the issue. Relevant, striking, and an eye-opener. Highly-recommended. 5 out of 5 stars.
My heart goes to the oppressed people of Burma who are deprived of freedom of speech and expression. This documentary showcases the risky life of local journalists who secretly films the demonstrations of the people against the military regime of their local government in order to tell the world that "this is what's happening in Burma and we need your support". I feel thankful that though there are lots of political and economical issues in my country the Philippines, we still live in democracy and can fight for our rights. The final scene of the documentary was just heart-breaking. See it for yourself.
Mea Maxima Culpa
This is quite a controversial documentary as it depicts the life of deaf children who were sexually-exploited by a Catholic priest. It caused quite a stir as the government has put too much pressure on the Vatican to resolve this ongoing issue. This is quite a sensitive issue so just watch it.
